Pearl Cinema Review - Designated Survivor - 60 Days

I love dramas that make sense and that mirrors real life drama in a fictional story.

Designated Survivor is one of these Korean-made dramas that will keep you glued to your computer or Smart TV, episode after episode.

The opening chapter immediately takes you to the terrorist bombing of National Assembly Building in Seoul.  For me it looked very realistic having been there twice and once inside the assembly hall.

From Wikipedia, "Park Mu-jin (Ji Jin-hee) is the Minister of Environment who has little ambition as a politician. One day, an explosion takes place during an official gathering at the National Assembly building, killing many of the high-ranking officials present including the President. As Park Mu-jin happens to be the highest ranking government officer left alive, he becomes the reluctant acting president for sixty days. As he chases after the people responsible for the explosion, he gets to grow as a national leader.[6]"

I know there is an American Version of Designated Survivor which my husband thought was excellent.  I didn't have the chance to view it.  Knowing a little about the politics in Asian countries, for me it was totally believable including the collusion between all the National Security Agencies and those in charge.

What made this drama sponsored by Netflix so worth-while, is it tells the story of a man Park Mu-jin who is suddenly thrust into the position of President due to the bombing of the National Assembly Building in Seoul which leaves everyone dead from the President to the Vice President and all the cabinet except for the Minister of Environment.  He is a man of principles who believes in following the law.  Which is very unusual for politics. He is not a politician.  He is a "good" person.  Ji Jin-hee was a perfect choice for the part.   He is a popular actor in Korean historical dramas.  Handsome, but vulnerable.

The other character that catches your eye is Bae Jong-Ok as Yun Chan-Kyung, who also starred in the first Korean Drama I watched completely through, "Wonderful Mama."
Any ways, if you have Netflix check this movie out!
